FAQ
- How do I set up a subscription?
-
The process is simple. Just follow these steps:
- First login to your account, or create one.
- Then go to the subscription tab.
- There you can "Add a new RSS Feed URL," and delete old ones.
- You can add to your balance, which is necessary for us to start transcription :)
- After you have added to your balance, you can click the link next to your feed to "Transcribe Past Audio," and have us transcribe anything that existed in your feed before you started your subscription.
- Can I have a feed with expedited service?
- Yes! You can now have expedited service for your RSS feeds. When you add a feed, you will see a pulldown menu of services to choose from, including Expedited.
- Can I have a feed with timestamps?
- Not yet. We will add this in the future. If you want such a service, let us know.
- How does this feature work with the other services?
- This feature uses the other services. You can choose to have your RSS feed be Expedited (1 day or 3 day), or standard transcription. We currently do not offer timestamps or difficult audio options for RSS feeds, but will offer it in the future.
- What kinds of feeds do you accept?
- We can only create a podcast subscriptions from RSS 2.0 with enclosure feeds. To learn more more about RSS 2.0 you can read this specification.
- What kinds of audio enclosures do you accept?
- At this point we only fully support MP3 enclosures. However we will automatically transcribe M4A, WMA, and WAV enclosures, it's just that we may need to contact you if there are issues. The mime types in the RSS for the enclosures must be correct - we will not process an MP3 with a non-audio mime type for instance 'application/pdf'.
- What about audio quality?
- To deliver these transcripts this cheaply, we need the audio to be podcast/broadcast quality audio.
- How am I charged?
- At least four times a day we check your feed, and download any new enclosures. We then process each file, charging you against your balance, and we start to transcribe as long as there are sufficient funds in your account. They should show up on your Current Status page as soon as we have downloaded the file. If there is not enough money in your account to transcribe a file we will email you.
- Where can I see what I've been charged for?
- All transactions against your balance show up on your Subscription History. All completed transcripts should be listed on your customer home page
- There is problem with my feed, what can I do?
-
The first thing to do is to check your feed against FeedValidator.org, and make sure the feed is valid. After that double check to make sure the enclosure tag has a good URL and mime type (you'd be surprised how often mistakes happen here). Also double check to see if there is a message at the top of the subscriptions page, as sometimes we can tell you exactly what is wrong. If all this fails please email us at support@castingwords.com
- How often do you check the feed?
-
We check your feed every six hours.
