How does it work?

Tell us how many tapes you have, authorize payment via Google Checkout or PayPal, and place your order.

We convert your audio to MP3s and mail the tapes, along with a CD or DVD of the MP3 files, to the address you provide. At this point, we charge your credit card for the transcription of the audio files.
And then we start transcribing. After we're done, we email you electronic copies of the transcript. The entire process should take about 10 days from the time we receive the tapes.

What media types are acceptable ?

We can transcribe from standard size cassette tapes at this time. Contact us if you have LPs or 45s, custom pricing is available. Sorry no micro-cassettes at this time - but if there is demand we may add it, so please write support@castingwords.com and register an interest. If you ship us an invalid media type we will charge you a $15 return processing fee.

When does the turnaround start ?

It starts when our processing facility receives the tapes. It generally takes 3 days for a conversion to MP3, and then 6 days from that till we have a transcript to email you. We will also mail you back your tapes, and an MP3 CDROM or DVD.

Where can I order from?

At this time we can only accept orders from the 50 United States. This restriction is because we need to mail you back your media, and the CDs of the digitized results. For large orders we can arrange for another carrier and shipping - please contact us at: support@castingwords.com.

What other things didn't you mention?

We do volume maximization for quiet recordings. And we trim silence. You'll get back 2 tracks on the CD we send you: Side A and Side B. There is other stuff, ask if you have questions.
